NHS Providers and Data Analysis
SkillsLogic and Musgrave Analytics have designed and developed the NHS Providers new web based data collection and analysis system. This new web based system makes it easier for NHS Providers to catalog, analyse and then report on the data they collect from their members.
NHS Foundation Trusts submit large amounts of data to NHS Providers - either as spreadsheets or in response to online surveys. Extracting data from those spreadsheets and storing it in a way that makes it easier to analyse and query has until now been a time consuming job.
With the new web application, NHS Providers can create catalog records that describe particular datasets and upload the associated data files - either one per trust or files that contain records from multiple trusts. Files are then processed by the system and data is extracted and stored in the database. The team can then search the catalogue for particular datasets, query the database directly or use third party tools such as Power Pivot for MS Excel to perform more in-depth analysis.
The design for the bespoke web application came out of discussions between Simon Musgrave at Musgrave Analytics and the NHS Provider data analysis team. SkillsLogic worked with Simon from early on in the project to keep the solution as flexible as possible and we think we’ve developed a solution that has both immediate benefits and the potential to be the basis of a wider data sharing, analysis and research tool for the organisation.
